I have now read the article, “See Through Words” twice. My experience reading through the second time opened my eyes to a whole new world. I noticed a different pace in my reading overall. I found myself slowing down more and really trying to fully understand what I was reading before I moved on with the text. It really caught my attention when I went back to the arguments about war. Even after the class discussion, rereading it again changed my belief on that I disagree. I do not believe arguments are wars in the way they describe it. I believe arguments can escalate, but they do not always have to have one side. I went in reading it as a believer the first time around, but when we discussed it in class, I started second guessing myself When I read it for a second time, I strongly disagreed. Also, the second time I read, I was less amused by the paintbrush comparison at the beginning. I think there could have been a stronger example that could have made the reader want to keep reading. Overall, I felt some parts were more interesting and some parts were far more boring. I believe glossing the text helped me with more of the beginning because it helped me get a flow going for what I was reading. For example, the word “hewn” was right in the first paragraph and I had no idea what the author was talking about. After I looked up that it means chopped, he is saying that metaphors are literally cut or removed from the mind.
