After comparing my first draft essay with Shitty First Drafts, I do feel that my draft is considered “shitty”. I know it is not perfection, but I feel like it is off to a good start. I found it amusing when they talked about how nobody can have a perfect draft the first time around and then it stated it was very rare but “we don’t like those people” which I found very true. I overall just felt like this essay was extremely relatable. I did not find anything really offensive. Some things I just found more exaggerated than others. For example when they were talking about typing or killing yourself. Sometimes I think it is very mentally painful, but not to the point of actual death.

  1. My goals for this paper are to create a well-organized essay that sticks to the prompt as well as having a clear and concise thesis statement. I want to be able to make a convincing argument that metaphors can have a negative impact on how we perceive ourself and our health, as well as being aware of the consequences.
  2. The first step I will take is to make sure I put the text in the correct order. Next, I will read the essay to see if the paragraphs flow and revise my introduction paragraph. Then I will add any additional evidence and support to back up my thesis. Finally, I will clean up my conclusion and grammatical errors.
  3. I see my biggest challenge as being able to switch things around as I need to and being okay with changing the order. Also, being able to come up with a good introduction paragraph is going to be a struggle.
  4. If the challenge comes up as too difficult to solve on my own, I would either as for advice from my professor or take a completely new attempt. Maybe it would be a good thing to try something “risky” if there are no other options. I would also read back to some articles that could possibly help with some “easy fixes” that I did not see before. In other words, any extra help I can get is better than no help at all. I feel confident that asking advice from others is a step in the right direction. I found it extremely helpful hearing from my peers and I would not be opposed to asking for more advice if the time comes where I need it.
