- The first quote that caught my eye was the hook itself. Beck says, “It’s just not how I expected my life would be.” What made this quote catch my eye was that it made me start reflecting back on my personal life. It almost caught me, in a way, off guard and really helped me connect with the text so early which is very important for the writer.
- Another one that stood out to me was when they were talking about personality. Beck Says, ” Life stories do not simply reflect personality. They are personality, or more accurately. they are important parts of personality, along with other parts”. This caught my eye because of the way I look at personality myself. In a way, I agree with this statement because I believe that stories make up for who we are in life. It is a complicated subject, however, I believe that they really do reflect on our past and about the decisions we make.
- “Pretty much from birth, People are ‘actors’. They have personality traits, they interact with the world, they have roles to play…still playing their roles and interacting with the world, but making decisions with the hopes of producing desired outcomes. This quote overall made me curious. I do not know if I quite agree, but it made me want to keep reading.
When reading through the quotes I agree with how you are feeling especially the second quote. When talking about personality it is not just life stories, rather it is how we tell and perceive them. I believe this quote does have an impact as our stories make up who we are. Overall, I agree with each of your quotes as they stand out and make us think more about what Becker is saying.
